Excellent afternoon out for everyone. Exhibits are lovingly maintained and staff so enthusiastic and generous with their time. Likely to be expanded over the next few years and rightly so.

A fabulous place to visit. Child friendly. Lots of interesting trains to view and really relaxed atmosphere. Most of the museum is flat and therefore wheelchair friendly. Entrance is free and it provides toilets, a railway memorabilia shop, a cafe and also plenty of tables and chairs to use for your own picnic (brilliant idea). If the weather is nice there is a children's outside play area that is enclosed for safety and an outdoor picnic area. Always seems to be kept clean and safe. You can visit by car and there are two car parks, one of which is for disabled and exhibitors. You can also get to it by local train on the Bishop Auckland to Darlington line.

Steeped in locomotive history from the very beginning to modern times. This museum is a great day out and serves both indoor and outdoor exhibits and play areas. A great journey for railway nostalgia. Excellent for kids and enthusiasts alike.

Wonderful place if you like trains and history. Easy to get to. Free entry. Good facilities including disabled access. Very reasonably priced restaurant. Very friendly staff. Good shop on the site. Excellent selection of model railway stuff. Well worth a visit to the birthplace of the railways.

Great day out for the hole family, we spent a fun filled morning walking around this beautiful museum. I was concerned the kids would not enjoy it however with the interactive games and massive impressive trains they had a ball. There is also a playground out the front to let them burn a bit of energy before heading home, will definitely be going back as other trains come and go, it's free entry however we donated a couple of pound to help keep it open.
